Beach wedding – Coastal Maine style

There are so many things I love when capturing wedding photographs. To tell the story of how two people met, fell in love and begin a new life together moves and inspires me every single time. To watch their bond and love for another is such a gift.
I had the honor of capturing this beautiful coastal wedding last weekend. The wedding was held at a family owned motel – Cooks Island View Motel in Bailey Island, Maine. If you have never been to the coast of Maine, this is the place to travel to & stay! It was the perfect wedding location - amazing coastal views, warm sun mixed with a cool ocean breeze and the freshest lobster I have ever tasted.
This wedding was truly unique. It didn’t follow the typical “order”, which made this day even more special. It is not often that I am the only witness to watch a groom and bride lay eyes on one another for the first time. Wow! I knew at that moment that this wedding was going to be filled with joyful tears, emotions and an endearing bond between two people and their families. The love this couple shares is amazing! It warms your heart, exudes unspoken romance – it’s simply moving.
Their ceremony was beautifully orchestrated; it was a celebration of not only their love for one another, but also their love for their families. Every moment was special – from choosing to walk down the aisle with both parents, to giving every parent a part in the ceremony, to passing the rings around for every person to wish upon before exchanging vows. The couple was married under an arbor built by the bride’s Dad. After the wedding it will be transported to their home states away. I was mesmerized. I loved every single moment. Love was literally in the fresh Maine air!
If you ever wondered what my favorite part of a wedding is it’s watching the newlyweds dance for the first time. To see them in this tender moment – relaxed, moving to the song they chose to represent who they are at this point in their lives always touches me. Their wedding song, All of Me, by John Legend, is undoubtable one of my favorites; it was made even better once the Groom started serenading his Bride in front of all their friends and family. Wow! Breathtaking!!! I don’t think there was a dry eye when the song faded, mine included.
But it didn’t stop there – then came the parent dances, cake made by a friend and cake topper handcrafted by the groom. This wedding was as special and moving as John Legend’s song.
I’m always so touched being a part of my clients’ special moments and it reminds me that what I do – photographing important milestones, freezing them for a lifetime to come – is a true blessing.
